Really amazing stuff here by Arcade Fire for the video for their latest single – “We Used To Wait”. Pushing the realms of the music video to create something truly interactive and unique for every viewer. I don’t think it works as well in Ireland as it does in other places, as it uses google street view which isn’t as complete here but still, it’s really impressive.

FRIDAY

FOALS

I’m sure you need little convincing to go and watch Foals. Their tent is going to be rammed and I’ve got a feeling a lot of people are going to leave having seen the best show of the weekend. If you’ve already seen Foals live, you know what I’m talking about – you’ll be unlikely to see a more energetic show all weekend.

FREELANCE WHALES

Big fans of these and will be perfect for some chilled goodness. Bands like this are what make Electric Picnic particularly enjoyable.

THE SUBS

You may have noticed, but we here at Transmission are big, BIG fans of The Subs. They’ve graced our stage twice and their slot at Electric Picnic is a sign of how well things are going for one of the best dance acts to come from Belgium. For me, they’re one of the few acts that manage to transform their recording music live, and actually make it way better than their recordings.

KORMAC’S BIG BAND

Things have really kicked of for Kormac, and I can tell you it’s fully deserved. Along with his band he brings a performance full of originality and fun that guarantees smiles all round. He was one of the genuine highlights of Glastonbury this year and also, for me, at the Body and Soul festival.

RUBBERBANDITS FT CRYSTAL SWING

It’s a festival… Things have to get silly every now and then… And just in case Rubberbandits weren’t silly enough, they’re playing with Crystal Swing…

SATURDAY

God there’s so much on the Saturday, not sure if I can keep it to just 5!! I’m leaving out so much below, like Edan, Gil Scott Heron, Leftfield, Joker, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble… But anyway, here are my Top 5:

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM!!

They get exclamation marks and everything. We’re that excited. After having to cancel their Tripod shows earlier this year cause of mkgniakbibaoboriokdlsklk Volcano in Iceland, it makes their Electric Picnic performance even more important. James Murphy said he’s not making another album (which he seems to be thinking twice about), which could mean this their last ever performance here in Ireland…

BLOODY BEETROOTS DEATHCREW 77

One of our favourite performances EVER at Transmission, The Bloody Beetroots play Electric Picnic for the first time and they’re also bringing their live show which is louder and way more intense than their dj sets – if that’s possible! They headline the Little Big Tent on the Saturday and you’ll need to get in there early – that tent is gonna be PACKED!

CRYSTAL CASTLES

For me, they’re one of the surprise hits of 2010. That might sound a bit odd, considering how massive they already were, but I thought this would be the year they fade in to the background and that everyone would realise that the whole thing was some stupid Skins obsessed phase. But alas, they released a smashing album and in turn their reputation amongst critics and fans has risen to another level.

VILLAGERS

This is going to be the biggest gig of his career in what I’m positive is going to be an absolutely rammed tent. Conor O’Brien has made one of the best and most critically acclaimed Irish albums for a long time. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bloke. I’d love to see him pick up the Mercury Prize.

MONOTONIX

I GUARANTEE! you, that if you go to Monotonix you will talk about it non-stop for the rest of the week. I saw these guys in Crawdaddy and it was absolutely mental. Where else would you get a drummer crowd surfing, along with his drum kit, and playing along while doing so. Seriously, take a punt and watch these, you wont be disappointed.

SUNDAY

By this stage your tired, you’ve consumed most of your booze but that last bit of adrenaline always gets you through… And there’s so many acts to help you along the way. Leaving loads out again but here’s the top 5 for Sunday!

LIQUID LIQUID

Percussive madness is exactly what you need to get going and that’s what you get from a Liquid Liquid performance. Loads of drums. Loads of Cowbell. Loads of shouting. Throw in a funky bassline and you’re on your feet grooving away…

FRIENDLY FIRES

I’ve still never seen Friendly Fires live and I can’t fucking wait! Very percussive as well actually… I think they’re 2nd album is really gonna blow us away. Hopefully we’ll hear some new tracks this weekend.

TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB

There’s little doubt the tent is gonna be out the door for this one. Featured on every advert in 2010, Two Door Cinema Club shot from a half full Crawdaddy show to comfortably selling out the Button Factory in a matter of months. This will be a feel good show, and one that will help your Sunday hangover.

JACK BEATS

Another Transmission favourite, Jack Beats make their first Irish appearance with 2 of them. Normally, Beni from Mixologists does the djing duties for this production duo with two MASSIVE Transmission shows under his belt. This time Plus One from Scratch Perverts joins him for a 4-deck live show along with their own Vj.

BEARDYMAN

This guy is INCREDIBLE live. The things he can do with his voice which simultaneously operating a whole range of gadgets live on stage is nothing short of amazing.
